They were traced to royalty in Europe. To Charlemange, Alfred the Great, & Duncan, King of the Scots, who was killed by MacBeth in 1040 A.D. They came from Charing Cross Kent, England around 1635. They were in Isle of Wright, Virginia around 1670. Edward Boykin was a large land owner, he married Ann Gwaltney, the great-granddaughter of Thomas Warren of "Warren House" in Surrey, England. Thomas Warren was an early settler in Jamestown, Virginia & was a member of the House of Burgesses. Robert Flake m. Margaret marriott. Their daughter Alice m. William Gwaltney. They became parents of Ann. Edward Boykin moved to Cherqw, S.C. in 1747 near Lynch Creek. In the land records of Ga. 5-1764 Vol 9 pg 174 he petitionedfor land but it lasped. Edward Boykin III petitioned for 200 acres in St. Matthew Parish north side of Briar Creek. It was granted. In 1771 John Boykin received land that was taken because he was a Tory, but after the war the land was returned. John D. Boykin & Catherine are buried near the homestead near Middleground B. Church. Barton Boykin was a member of the House of Rep. in 1858. John Wesley Boykin lived four miles south of Sylvania, was a veteran of the war between the states, on muster roll of Co. 1 B., 25 Reg. Ga. Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tenn. C.S.A., Screven Cty. Black Creek Volunteer, he was a private, appointed Corporal 11-11-1861 relieved of duty 9-15-1862. Jessie & Lizzie are buried at Black Creek. Robert Victor & Bertie owned a large dairy. They are buried at Bethesda Cmty. in Effingham County.
